I have been keeping company with Sadness today.
Sadness was a frequent guest last year. When the new year brought new loss, he set-up camp. I did not invite him, but he does not leave.
Most of the time, I find his company bearable. He is not usually oppressive. Present, but only passively imposing himself. Most days, I hold my focus on Happiness, and Sadness lurks in the shadows. I can almost convince myself he isn’t even there.
Then I turn a corner just a moment too soon, and come face-to-face with my old enemy. A painful confrontation. I am suddenly reminded of all that is lost, and Happiness is unseated.
Happiness is always fleeting.
Ah, but I have learned not to depend on Happiness. She is my fickle friend. Hope is my true and steady friend; always near. I take her hand and face Sadness down.

Quote to Consider
“We need women, and men, too, who would rather be morally right than socially correct.” Peter Marshall (1902-1949) I saw this quote on a social media website a couple of weeks ago, and it struck as the perfect words for this season of our lives. No matter where we live in the world, we are…

Living This Out
I know there are a lot of men and women struggling with sin in their lives right now. You are doing everything you know to do, being as faithful to God as you can be, yet there is a struggle inside you for freedom. Something keeps pulling you back into bondage. Well, if you are…

God’s Appointed Time
Such a good teaching: “God’s Appointed Time.” I love God’s precision. This is not just a teaching about God’s timing in these End Times, but a biblical survey of God’s invention of time. As so often they do, Amir’s teaching leaves me excited and looking up! I encourage you to listen and rejoice at God’s…

Sunday Worship: “Jesus Is My Lord”
This song soothes my spiritual aches and pains. No matter the cares and burdens I may have carried in with me, this song gently leads me into a place of worship. When I am worshiping Jesus, there is nothing else that matters in the world. “Worshiping at the piano one day, this song started with…

Happen-ness
I went all the way back to my Xanga blog for this TBT. I originally published this on March 9, 2011. So…yeah. These happen to be challenging days. God has proven Himself faithful so many times. I know He’s bigger than the Boogie Man. And, all the other scary things that threaten me. It’s just…

Singing in the Snow
I walked into my bedroom yesterday and was surprised to hear someone singing in the distance. I opened the window and captured a bit of it. I was kind of amazed. Then, last night, I learned the rest of the story. He told me how hard it had been to shovel the snow, because it…

Three-Years-Old
Surprises and Christmas trees, and blue lollipops that turn her tongue blue—these are a few of her favorite things. Some of her favorite games are jumping from the “highest mountain” and running so fast; hiding behind a chair and calling out, “Where’s Lucy?” She stops and smiles, when she hears the “Hanes Sister” sing, and…

Thoughts on a Thursday
I shouldn’t be blogging right now, but if I don’t get some words out of me I’m going to explode. So much is happening. Inside me. All around me. There is just so much on my mind. I’ve been promising myself I would blog for weeks, but blogging is a luxury of time I haven’t…

Unraveling Life’s Tangled Kite Strings
The other day. I was trying to repair two kites at the same time—while riding in a car. Admittedly, not a lot of wisdom in that decision, but we were taking our grandbabies to the park and I was trying to fix them before we got there. Well, I couldn’t be too surprised when their…
