I have been keeping company with Sadness today.
Sadness was a frequent guest last year. When the new year brought new loss, he set-up camp. I did not invite him, but he does not leave.
Most of the time, I find his company bearable. He is not usually oppressive. Present, but only passively imposing himself. Most days, I hold my focus on Happiness, and Sadness lurks in the shadows. I can almost convince myself he isn’t even there.
Then I turn a corner just a moment too soon, and come face-to-face with my old enemy. A painful confrontation. I am suddenly reminded of all that is lost, and Happiness is unseated.
Happiness is always fleeting.
Ah, but I have learned not to depend on Happiness. She is my fickle friend. Hope is my true and steady friend; always near. I take her hand and face Sadness down.

The Best Kind
Just a bit of fiction for friends. I started it three years ago. It’s just been fading away in my dark and dusty drafts file. Might as well share it along with all the other paragraphs I’ve posted tonight. It wasn’t quite the last parking spot in the lot, but it was far enough away…

I’m Just Warming Up
A musician plays their instrument to warm-up to play their instrument. I do that, too. I write to warm-up to write. So, here’s a little traditional-style blogging for you. I don’t know what you can expect, but I have a lot to say. Get a cup of tea. I better get one, too. Today is…

November 1, 2024 Today was Monday. I don’t care what you say, I don’t care what the calendar says. Today was Monday at our house. The morning had been occupied with work and such, so that when it was time for Doug to go to the jail we hadn’t had any time together. That made…

Saturday Evening Post: December 21, 2024
The last day of Autumn was a perfect transition into Winter. It was the kind of snow day I dream of all year long. The sky was overcast, layers of different shades of grey. There wasn’t a patch of blue to be found. Just a fluffy, cozy comforter laid over the Earth as far as…

Dear Sandy.
Well, here’s another post I didn’t have the courage to post. I wrote this on the 1st Anniversary of the Historian going away. I don’t talk to my sister in Heaven, but on that day I just wanted to pretend she wasn’t really gone. Today happens to be the second anniversary of her leaving, so…

Seeing Christ
One of my purposes for Blogtober 2024 has been to go through my drafts file and publish posts that are just sitting there ignored. Incomplete. So, here’s one I wrote two years ago on June 7. I briefly published it, but then took it down. It was just a thought that I spit out into…

One Year
I pulled an all-nighter, listening to IHOP-KC, when I received a notification. The BBC. I stopped to check it. Israel invaded. Israel invaded? Suddenly, everything changed. The atmosphere was different. I felt it in my spirit. Time would be measured Differently Now. What really mattered changed forever. What was I reading, seeing, hearing? It took…

A Poem for a Saturday Morning
This morning, I have been looking for a Christmas poem for HopeMail’s Christmas card and came across this pretty poem. It really struck a cord in me. It’s not the right poem for HopeMail, but it does set my heart and mind on Christmas. Helen Maria Williams lived from 1761 until 1829. She was born…

TSP: The Solid Rock
Just wanted to share this version of The Solid Rock, recorded by my husband, Doug Gregan. The song was written by Edward Mote, circa 1834, before there even were saxophones, but Doug does a beautiful job integrating his horn into this powerful hymn. William B. Bradbury composed the music in 1863, according to the HymnTime.com website. Below…
