I have been keeping company with Sadness today.
Sadness was a frequent guest last year. When the new year brought new loss, he set-up camp. I did not invite him, but he does not leave.
Most of the time, I find his company bearable. He is not usually oppressive. Present, but only passively imposing himself. Most days, I hold my focus on Happiness, and Sadness lurks in the shadows. I can almost convince myself he isn’t even there.
Then I turn a corner just a moment too soon, and come face-to-face with my old enemy. A painful confrontation. I am suddenly reminded of all that is lost, and Happiness is unseated.
Happiness is always fleeting.
Ah, but I have learned not to depend on Happiness. She is my fickle friend. Hope is my true and steady friend; always near. I take her hand and face Sadness down.

Kick Off Those Shoes! (Revisted)
This original post has recently had some views. I didn’t remember it by the title, so I clicked to reread it. As I did, I noticed something that I needed to correct. It’s something the Lord has taught me in the past five years. So, below is the post updated, with my correction. Er, rather,…

The Promise After the Comma
Christmastime is often called The Season of Hope, but for the Christian every season is a season of hope. Being a Christian, we have good reason to hope and a good Father in Whom to place our hope! Proverbs 13:12 talks about hope. It tells us that hoping can be very difficult sometimes! “HOPE deferred…

How We Ended Up Eating Sandwiches for Dinner
Went into the kitchen to put away clean dishes and get the kitchen ready to make dinner. Noticed dish mat was wet. Took it off and hung it out to dry. Noticed an older mat out there, so I took it and put it in the laundry. Saw some coffee drips on the counter (coffee…

I Think About Saul A Lot
Then the Lord said to Samuel, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has again refused to obey Me.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard what God was saying, that he cried to the Lord all night. (1 Samuel 15:10-11) I wonder so much about why God condescended to the…

Meet Me There?
What a strange day. Woke-up at 4:30 AM with a headache that didn’t go away until about 1:30. Consequently, missed church (watched sermon online – twice), attended an installation service for a new pastor (Doug was providing the music), ministered to a young woman, had a short hour with my grandbabies, and then went to…
