I have been keeping company with Sadness today.
Sadness was a frequent guest last year. When the new year brought new loss, he set-up camp. I did not invite him, but he does not leave.
Most of the time, I find his company bearable. He is not usually oppressive. Present, but only passively imposing himself. Most days, I hold my focus on Happiness, and Sadness lurks in the shadows. I can almost convince myself he isn’t even there.
Then I turn a corner just a moment too soon, and come face-to-face with my old enemy. A painful confrontation. I am suddenly reminded of all that is lost, and Happiness is unseated.
Happiness is always fleeting.
Ah, but I have learned not to depend on Happiness. She is my fickle friend. Hope is my true and steady friend; always near. I take her hand and face Sadness down.

A Favorite Game
This is my Day 4 Blogtober post. The theme is “Laugh Out Loud,” and I thought this video of my husband playing a favorite game with our grandchildren might make everyone laugh out loud at least a little. We gain so much from the time we have with our grandbabies—including the chance to laugh out…

Every Tool in the Box
“Oh, no.” I could hear from the tone of the Saxophone Player’s voice that something really bad had just happened. Doug was installing a new shower head we’d received for Christmas, when the water pipe that pokes out from the shower wall broke off right into his hand. It didn’t unscrew off, mind you. It…

Did Michelle Williams Just Eviscerate the Pro-Choice Movement, or Was That My Imagination?
Did Michelle Williams just eviscerate the Pro-Choice movement, or was that my imagination? Did she just say that her abortions were elective, not for the safety of the mother or because the child was at risk? Did she just say that she needed abortions, so that she could have unprotected intercourse with anyone at anytime?…

A Dumb Movie and Bad Company
EDIT on 5/9/19 I had my dates wrong. I’ve been sharing how I came to understand God’s call on my life to be my husband’s help meet. It started with a post in October called Six Months. The second post was My Filthy Rags. As I was editing the third and last post of this testimony, I…

Sunday Worship
This song soothes my spiritual aches and pains. No matter the cares and burdens I may have carried in with me, this song gently leads me into a place of worship. When I am worshiping Jesus, there is nothing else that matters in the world. “Worshipping at the piano one day, this song started with…

Saturday Evening Post: 4/27/19
It’s been a “sick” week. I have had many sick weeks this year. In fact, since Christmas I think I’ve only had one or two weeks when I wasn’t sick. It’s been really not-fun. However, I think it’s for a good reason. Doug went back to “full-time” jail ministry in December, and I think I’m…

Race to the Finish
Have we made God into an image that suits us? Have we have brought Him down to our level, and made Him someone we can understand? Someone whose thoughts and ways are like our thoughts and ways? I don’t think we aren’t seeking God, but I think we’re impatient with Him. Instead of being willing to…

Sunday Worship
We recorded this in 2002. It is a demo we had to make for technical and copyright purposes. The quality on this particular recording is pretty good, but they aren’t all. All together, there are 28 songs. The songs are registered with CCLI, however, we offer them to the Body of Christ ourselves—for the sake…
