I have been keeping company with Sadness today.
Sadness was a frequent guest last year. When the new year brought new loss, he set-up camp. I did not invite him, but he does not leave.
Most of the time, I find his company bearable. He is not usually oppressive. Present, but only passively imposing himself. Most days, I hold my focus on Happiness, and Sadness lurks in the shadows. I can almost convince myself he isn’t even there.
Then I turn a corner just a moment too soon, and come face-to-face with my old enemy. A painful confrontation. I am suddenly reminded of all that is lost, and Happiness is unseated.
Happiness is always fleeting.
Ah, but I have learned not to depend on Happiness. She is my fickle friend. Hope is my true and steady friend; always near. I take her hand and face Sadness down.

A couple days ago I posted about Maria Montessori-inspired games I had made for my granddaughter. Michel Fauquet, one of my dear, blogging friends, shared a…

”Who’s Ready?”

A Dumb Movie and Bad Company
EDIT on 5/9/19 I had my dates wrong. I’ve been sharing how I came to understand God’s call on my life to be my husband’s help meet. It started with a post in October called Six Months. The second post was My Filthy Rags. As I was editing the third and last post of this testimony, I…

Sunday Worship
This song soothes my spiritual aches and pains. No matter the cares and burdens I may have carried in with me, this song gently leads me into a place of worship. When I am worshiping Jesus, there is nothing else that matters in the world. “Worshipping at the piano one day, this song started with…

Saturday Evening Post: 4/27/19
It’s been a “sick” week. I have had many sick weeks this year. In fact, since Christmas I think I’ve only had one or two weeks when I wasn’t sick. It’s been really not-fun. However, I think it’s for a good reason. Doug went back to “full-time” jail ministry in December, and I think I’m…

Saturday Evening Post: 1-20-18
• Disappointed for the Upstairs Neighbors. They had such a special weekend planned. We aren’t sure what happened, but have some guesses. Mom is doing better today, but says something is definitely different. Praying Isaac (due in March) stays put. • Saw this on Facebook tonight: To say this grieved my heart would be an…

ACV!
Blah blah blah apple cider vinegar blah blah blah-blah blah. There are more than enough words already written about the benefits of drinking ACV, so I’m not going to add to the clog. I will just say that it makes a difference for me. If you’re curious, do your research. It might really be worth…

Fit For A King
“Maybe, he’ll play his saxophone for the Lord one day,” she suggested. I scoffed. Wasn’t it enough to just believe this atheist man could get saved? Couldn’t he just be a Christian who was also a jazz musician? Did I have to believe God for two impossible things? Oh, she called it, though. She had the…

Mexican Cornbread Pie
After being sick, I was craving comfort food. Mexican Cornbread Pie, to be specific. I found this recipe in a women’s magazine very early in my marriage, and I have probably made it hundreds of times—maybe, a thousand times. I know. It’s ridiculous to imagine someone making and eating the same dish so many times,…

Don’t be Afraid to Peel a Tomato
I used to be afraid to peel tomatoes. For some reason, peeling a tomato just seemed like something only super humans and Julia Child could do. Definitely, not me. Well, I’m here to tell you that it is really easy to do! And, it’s totally worth it, because no one—I mean, no one—wants to eat…

Do You Feel Like A Deflated Balloon??
ONCE UPON A TIME, you had a marvelous encounter with God. You felt His love all around you. You knew you were loved, and you only had eyes for Jesus. He was the only One for you. Everything in your life felt right, it felt good. No mountain seemed too high, because you were floating…

A Recorded Miracle
Have to share this! It isn’t common to get to see a miracle—much less hear one. However, a real miracle took place in a Sunday school class in Texas. The class was being recorded, so the moments before, during, and after were captured on tape. Please, take five minutes to watch. this video I know…

Had To Tell Someone
It’s not good news. Today the Saxophone Player heard the words we never wanted to hear: You were right. My heart aches. Of course, we knew he was right. We knew he was hearing from the Lord. We just hoped it wouldn’t be as bad as this. (This subject is closely related to the subject…
